“Negative, A-Man.”





“I’m going underground,” he repeated. “Open Alley X-9.”

“That’s a negative, Adams. We need you topside. We have a … situation.”

“Damn ..."

Custom wheels designed by "Dr. Go" held the road despite desperate turns ... “Look, I uh, have a little problem of my own.”

“What is it?”

Agent Yoshimoto's voice was almost too sex kitten soft to hear over the roar of the Custom Cad' and the sirens howling.

“Chased by Capital City Police!”

“Opening Alley X-9. Turn on [classified] and prepare to drop …”

Our scene switches to a softer climate, inside the apartment of Lucy Hell.



She’s asleep, in bed, but she doesn’t know that, doesn’t want to know that. She feels free and content just now, free of the harsh lines of reality, free of memories past-present-future, only here, this liberated space, unrestricted, unclothed, she touches a pole and glides around, gently spinning, laughing … as the red phone rings.

In a Capital City lounge called “House of Monkey” our hero the walking/talking Eddie Crossbones can feel his watch vibrating.



He lifts his head toward the bartender, his hat covering most of his features, a face that is actually a rubber mask covering the living, somehow breathing skull underneath. “Scotch, bartender, please …”

Down in the Sanctuary Agent Yoshimoto continues to call the local Society members to respond to the situation at hand. She has tried to remain calm as the teenager beside her rocks back and forth in pain, his head ready to split open with the psychic flood assaulting his brain.

“What is it, kid? What’s happening?”

Kid Telepathy looked up and sighed, as if his spirit was slipping out of his body. “Too late,” he said. “He’s already here.”

“Kid …”

“The Mushroom Man is here,” he said.
