SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

UPDATED: 12.26.08

MYSTERY ISLAND MAGAZINE is a POP CULTURE venue with an emphasis on: MUSIC (interviews & reviews) and CREATIVE WRITING (poetry and short stories) in print and online.

Please use the word "submission" in the header of your email so you don't get weeded out as spam and send your submission as a Word document attachment or inside the body of an email.

Submit one PREVIOUSLY UNPUBLISHED article, essay, interview, play, review, or short story or one to three PREVIOUSLY UNPUBLISHED poems at a time. We do not accept hard copy submissions through the mail unless arrangements have been previously made. No restrictions to language, content, or style as long as the work is mature and well written. Shorter, concise, hard-hitting pieces have the best chance. Work must be proofed, spell-checked, with tight grammar. We cannot take on sloppy work.

Mystery Island is not a paying market at this time, therefore, you maintain ownership/copyright over your work and the Island provides you with a great vehicle of exposure with our dedicated readership.

See our BLACK SHARK PRESS web log for examples of poetry that we have published: BLACK SHARK PRESS

More tips: double-space (not poetry), spell-check, proof your work, make sure you include your name, street address, email address, and word count (not poetry) when submitting. Please send short bio and a picture if possible with your submission as some projects require those items.

You do not need to query first before submitting your words or images. Response time varies from one day to one month.
