LOS STRAITJACKETS: LIVE @ HARLOW'S IN SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA!
REVIEW by BRADLEY MASON HAMLIN for MYSTERY ISLAND MAGAZINE
One of our favorite bands stopped by in Sacramento this week to thrill the crowd at Harlow’s with the real thing, the real deal, and the true lift-off of rock and/or roll!
That band is of course: LOS STRAITJACKETS!
This band has more heart than Frankenstein in a morgue full of fresh victims. Not only are they all truly great musicians, they perform with great style, and that is the essence of old school rock & roll.
PEDRO DEL MAR!
They are a surf-influenced band that provides more true “punk” feeling and rhythm than any modern pop punk band you are likely to find.
All that and Mexican wrestling masks—and you’ve got an A+ band all around.
Just hearing “University Boulevard” live by Los Straitjackets is a concert-going highlight that will never be forgotten, right up there with seeing Brian Wilson or Dick Dale perform live.
Thank you so much, amigos, for your hospitality and for putting up with our somewhat mai tai and v-lemon fueled enthusiasm. You get all our love from Mystery Island.
Also, there is another great reason for mass fiesta! Daddy-O has released a new album with some of his other chili-eating compadres: Crunchy, Sr. Ramírez, and Truko Casasola.
That album: Mexican Chili Taco Fiesta!
We’re listening to a promo right now [thanks, Daddy-O!] and we can honestly say it is super fantastic wonderful!
We especially enjoy “Liftoff,” written by the great Danny Amis himself, as are most of the tunes on this must-own album. There is also a great vocal bit on the first song "Tamales Oaxaquenos," a super-driven rumble written by Esteban "Crunchy" López. Much fun!
Buenisimo! Mucho gracias! And adios!
