KELLY-LYNN the OFFICIAL VOICE of "VERONICA LODGE" for THE ARCHIES!
INTERVIEW: December 2008: by BRAD & LUCY for MYSTERY ISLAND MUSIC
BRAD: Hi Kelly! Let’s start with your recent transformation into Veronica Lodge. How did that awesome event happen?
Kelly-Lynn: Well, it kinda happened very quickly. Ron asked me and Danielle to do a show with him and then after that he asked us to be on the Archies album with him. It has been very fun and exciting.
LUCY: How are you and Betty (Danielle van Zyl) getting along? Any competitive Betty vs. Veronica action going on?
Kelly-Lynn: No not at all. Danielle and I hang out and there is no tension about the music buisness. She and I have very different voices and styles and there has been no competition.
BRAD: Do you play any instruments? Veronica used to rock the organ/keyboard.
Kelly-Lynn: Yes, I play some piano just like Veronica. LOL.
LUCY: Tell us about working with Disney?
Kelly-Lynn: Working with Disney was simply AWESOME! The people I worked with were very laid back and professional and I was able to really put my own personality into the music.
BRAD: How about Ron Dante, did you learn any bubblegum tricks?
Kelly-Lynn: Well, Ron has taught me a lot about recording. I have recorded several other things with him and the years in the studio have taught me so much about being a true artist.
LUCY: Did you read Archie comics growing up? Do you still read Archie comics?
Kelly-Lynn: When I was growing up I did not read the Archies comics, but my parents did as children, so when they found out that I was going to be the voice of Veronica, they were thilled. Now, I do read the comics and I enjoy reading them very much.
BRAD: We’re listening to the Christmas album right now and I’m still blown away by “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” You should be really proud of how great that song sounds. Tell us a little bit about making that track. How many takes did it take to get it just right?
Kelly-Lynn: Thank you so much. That track was a lot of fun to record. It's always been one of my favorite holiday songs so I was able to put a lot of feeling into it. I didn't know that I was singing that song as a solo until I got to the studio, but I just let it fly and I was really happy with the outcome of the song. I believe it took me about 3 takes to get it perfect.
LUCY: Was “Have Yourself” your favorite song from the Christmas album or was there a song you enjoyed making more?
Kelly-Lynn: Hmm that's a hard one. I enjoyed recording all the songs but I would have to say my top 4 favorites are "Holly Jolly Christmas," "Here comes Santa Claus," "Have yourself," and "I saw mommy Kissing Santa Claus."
BRAD: You’re obviously well on your way to having a big fan base. How do you feel about becoming a new role model for the kids in the listening audience?
Kelly-Lynn: I feel honored and shocked at the same time. lol. I think of myself as just an average girl. I'm glad I can be someone that others look up to and I always try to set a good example and stick to what I believe in.
LUCY: Is it tough being famous at such a young age? Are you feeling spoiled like Veronica yet?
Kelly-Lynn: No, I have not changed at all. No matter how many cds sell, I am still Kelly and I know where I come from and the person I truly am.
BRAD: If Mr. Dante keeps The Archies active—are you interested in continuing as Veronica?
Kelly-Lynn: Of course! Recording is such a joy for me, it's not like work at all.
LUCY: What other famous character would you like to portray?
Kelly-Lynn: That's tough but one of the people I look up to is Lucille Ball. So if I could portray her that would be incredible.
BRAD: What’s next for Kelly-Lynn?
Kelly-Lynn: Singing, singing, and more singing.
BRAD & LUCY: Thank you so much and good luck with your career!
